Nathan & I drummed up this brilliant plan to go camping on Friday night. 30% chance of rain seemed worth risking. We recruited the Micah set to join us, packed the cooler, and set out for a night of s'more-filled fun.
Snicker.
It rained and rained, then took a nice big break. Just long enough to get the fire started. Then it rained a bit more seriously and we gave up. We'd pizza and slumber party at our house instead, a quick 15 minutes away. Just as we got the campfire put out and the cars packed up again, the sun came out again. Rainbow-style.
Back to play on Saturday. "Wet tinder won't start a fire." But two determined Gaunt men accomplished it anyway. It drizzled and blustered the way October should. We ate a hodge-podge lunch one cooked smackerel at a time and wrapped chilly kids in beach towels.
Isn't it funny that we were largely miserable, but still plan to try again soon?
